Tea & Taxes

April 15th is approaching, and small business owners such as myself are struggling to make both payroll and their quarterly tax pre-payment. This year, the long lines at the Post Office for last minute tax filings will not be the only story on the news. Thanks to some motivated conservative politicos, we will be treated with "Tea Parties" across the nation.

These Tea Parties are in protest of the growth of government spending. I find it ironic that these protests are modeled after the Boston Tea Party. That was a protest against the Tea Act, a taxation that was applied without representation. In this case, we have the exact opposite. President Obama, and his liberal spending priorities, was democratically elected by a majority of the populace. Now he is fulfilling his campaign promise.

I am supportive of any event that causes people to become more politically involved. In this case, however, I find their concern for government spending less than genuine. The growth of government spending wasn't a concern, when it was their team doing the spending. Now the other side is funding their priorities, and suddenly a revolt is in order. It seems like it is more of a national tantrum, voicing frustration that their side lost.

It should be good TV though! I am sure that Fox News will be all over it.

For all those who missed it, here is Rick Santelli's tantrum, that inspired the event.

  1. The tea party has outlived its usefulness. This movement is anything but a grass roots party. The leadership of the tea party has been highjacked by the neo con conservatives the extreame elements have now completely taken over the movement.
